Italian

At Our Lady of Hope, children have the opportunity to learn Italian from Reception to Year 6.

Through the study of a language, children extend their understanding of themselves and their own language, widen their network of interactions, in addition to strengthening their literacy and numeracy skills.

Children will gain knowledge and skills that enable them to communicate in Italian through social interactions such as greetings, asking and answering simple questions, responding to instructions, singing songs and playing games. They will extend their knowledge and learn to read and write sentences in Italian.   Children will develop their cultural understanding and will be encouraged to compare the cultural practices of both Italians and Australians.

Additional opportunities for using Italian are provided through the use of computer assisted activities, as well as through a range of experiences in art, music, dance, informational clips, incursions and food.
